As a freelance writer, you may have many clients. Unless you're a "niche" writer, however, your clients may vary widely in area of interest or focus, have different expectations and require a unique style of writing. It's your job as a freelance writer to multitask in order to complete your projects by their deadlines. When you're working on different assignments, it can be difficult to change focus. Here are a few examples on how to multitask your different freelance writing assignments.

Take a short break between your freelance writing assignments. Go to the restroom, check your favorite Web sites or eat lunch. Clear your head to prepare yourself mentally for the next project.

Get something cold to drink. A cold beverage is not only refreshing, but it also helps to wake up the senses. If you are dehydrated, you'll feel sluggish and tired. Drinking plenty of liquids can help perk up your thinking skills.

Review your notes for the freelance writing assignment on which you're preparing to work. Reading over what you've already written for the project will refresh your memory and put you in the right frame of mind.

Call your client with any questions you may have. Asking a simple question about the project prompts discussion that can help direct your creative energy more effectively. Visit the physical location or Web site about which you are writing, as doing so can help you focus on the client.

Create a writing schedule and follow it. Don't be tempted to write on your favorite project and put off another until it's almost too late. Plan your day with purpose.

Versatility is one of the most sought-after traits in a writer and one of the most difficult to acquire and maintain. By allowing yourself to smoothly transition from one freelance writing assignment to the next, you can learn how to multitask more efficiently.
